Market Reports (May 2018)

25th May 2018

Cattle

Prices for clean cattle remain unchanged in the region of 380-385p/kg, with Angus commanding a strong premium in the region of 425p/kg. We have strong demand for OTM heifers and bulls as well as weekly collections for black and white bulls under 16 months.
Cows numbers are very variable at present, with throughputs proving difficult to maintain. Bases prices in the region of 310-315p/kg. With the trade likely to remain firm over the next month, it is probably worth putting flesh on leaner younger cows. More needed every week.

Good breeding cattle available and wanted. Strong forward stores wanted. Batches of rearing calves available.

Sheep

We have experienced very firm demand for both hogget’s and spring lambs in the last week. The trade for well fleshed hogget’s has been up to 565p/kg and spring lambs in the region of 600-620p. Extraordinary!!
The trade has eased as the week has closed with the bank holiday in France blamed and reduced home market demand due the fasting period associated with Ramadan.

Final hogget’s moved next week, please phone your fieldsman asap if you need lifted.

More spring lambs needed, all weights. New suppliers welcome.
